The technique of silhouetting can be used to add glamour and intensity to many everday photographs – includinbg still lifes, vacation pictures and even family photographs. Handled properly, the technique will inject excitement and drama into standard photographs.

Since it is concerned only with the overall form of a subject, the silhouette can be described as a well-defined, black shape that stands out against a brightly lit, uncomplicated background. Because of its visual simplicity the silhouette has remained one of the most often used effects in spite of the deluge of special effects gadgetry that is available to today’s photographer.

A picture of a sailboat silhouetted against the setting sun, a fireman battling a blaze, or a solitary figure walking along a beach are all familiar examples of this technique. Each photo works well because the silhouette adds to the mood of an already strong image, intensifying the mood with a sense of tranquility, danger, or loneliness.

However, while the result may appear elementary, the creation of such a photograph is not always easily accomplished. The photographer must learn to deviate from the rules generally followed when taking a normally- lit picture by adjusting for a different relationship between light and subject.

cultural photography read & write

cultural photography are photos taken of things that people know put together before it has existed. They can show someone else’s point of view. Cultural photography can be what it’s like to be a person at your time. It can also be people of your race, ideals, age, or even religion.

Cultural photography can show a full approach on the world and people and things around you. There are many types of cultural photography. One was in high end construction and the second was in religion . Some photographers go and spend days with these cultures to see what it is really like.

My favorite teacher

My favorite teacher is Mrs. Archueltta. She is the most kindest, sweetest, funniest teacher I’ve ever had. She’s a very inspiring person. She’s the type of teacher to always be there for you. if you ever have any problems or concerns, shell always be your right hand. You will always catch her joking around and will always make your day.

Mrs. archueletta gives you the time and effort of her day. Every time I had a problem, i went to her and she helped me as much as she can. She is very friendly to her students. When giving new assignments, she goes through them and explains them perfectly. Archueltta gives you more than enough time to complete assignments. She also is willing to give you extra time if needed.

My final reason is that she has trust in her students and never lets us down with anything. She has taught the class maturity and many students have reflected on that. Overall, archueletta is a teacher that you can vibe with. Will always bring out the joy and make the best of it. She tries her hardest to give students time to socialize after all the hard working.

flash photo compare

In the first picture, flash is not used. In the second photo, flash is used.

The first picture shows a light background as in the 2nd picture, there is dark background.

The girl in the blonde has saturation added in her picture, and the other girl used natural lighting only.

In the 1st picture, the girl put half her body in the shot, in the 2nd picture, it only shows her face.

The 1st picture was shot outside and the 2nd picture looks like it was filmed in a studio or indoor.

External Flash Photography

  1. You use external flash when you don’t have enough natural light.
  2. You need to meter the light when you are using the flash.
  3. Flash synchronization is when you open the when the flash from the camera and external light works together.
  4. ETTL is when the camera uses the lens to find out how much light needs to enter the picture.
  5. If you don’t sync the flashlight then half of the picture will be black and half will be exposed.
  6. Bouncers and diffusers are used to adjust the harshness of a photo.
  7. A slave is used to see the incoming light in a photo.
  8. When an image comes out to dark you either lower the shutter speed or open the aperture and when a photo comes out to bright you do the opposite.

Strobe lights – Read and write

Strobes need a light source so two options of light sources are a flash head with a power pack, or a monolight. The power pack is energy for the light to use. The two power packs are symmetric packs that split power between multiple flash heads, and asymmetric packs that let the power move to different flash heads. If you are shooting strobes outside you will need a power pack with lots of energy. Monolight’s might be the best option for lighting when you are shooting indoors. Zoom reflectors attach a honeycomb grid for a more focused spread.

There are many types of light modifiers, reflective umbrellas, flash head reflectors, honeycomb grids and soft boxes to name a few. Reflective umbrellas provide a soft light and are meant to be pointed away from the subject or models. Soft boxes are a more focused light towards the subject. honeycomb grids are attached to the strobe head to adjust the quality of the light.

Stands can be used to keep the lights up. The two main stands are the C-stands and the lightweight stands. The air-shock will soften the fall of your light, minimizing or even eliminating any damage for the lightweight stand. You need to pay attention while loosening your knobs, so your gear doesn’t get damaged when using C-stands. The prices for stands are Lightweight stands cost about $70, and C-stands cost at least $200.
